I just returned from the Naples (FL) Philharmonic Percussion Summit. The event featured percussionists from the Naples, Florida, Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta and Syracuse Symphony Orchestras. I was invited to present a percussion accessories clinic and perform in the evening percussion ensemble concert. Groove master Zoro (pictured) was also a featured clinician and performed with the ensemble. All involved had a blast! The concert audience of over 1,000 was treated to everything from "Garbage Music" to "Marimba Master" arrangements to a new piece by former Pittsburgh Symphony timpanist Stan Leonard. The concert concluded with a spirited performance by Zoro accompanied by the ensemble. It was a memorable evening. You can read more about it here: http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2009/sep/10/drummers-delight-zoro-and-his-fellow-percussionist/ If you're in the area...
Boston Symphony percussionist Lee Vinson took time out to stop by the shop and visit today. While he was here, Lee had a chance to provide some feedback on the new Grover G3 snare drum prototypes.
Lee made some great suggestions that will be incorporated into the next generation of prototypes. Lee also reported that his new "X-Series" tambourine (synthetic head) got lots of use this summer at Tanglewood (it rained most of June & July). He said that everyone loved the new instrument!
On Saturday, September 12th, I will be a guest artist at the Naples Philharmonic Center Percussion Summit. Swiss percussionist Emil Bolli stopped by today for a visit. Emil is the owner of Murbach Music, a terrific percussion store located in Egeraingen, Switzerland. Emil came all the way to Boston so that he could check out our new Bronze-Pro Hammered Triangles, our new "X-Series" Synthetic Head Tambourines, plus many of our other products.
Emil got an opportunity to play one of our new prototype snare drums. It's a top secret project, currently reffered to as "G3". Here, Emil is photographed with one of the new models. Stay tuned for more details about our new snare drums!
On July 2nd, LA based percussionist Judy Chilnick stopped by the factory for a visit. Judy was particularly interested in our Bronze Pro triangles. Judy told us that she owns a 6" Bronze Pro which she not only loves, but that gets positive comments about the beautiful sonorities produced by her instrument. Judy picked out a 5" triangle to add to her collection. She also took the opportunity to hand select some Artist's Choice bamboo timpani mallets.
Judy is a busy freelancer and respected teacher in the LA area. Thanks for stopping by Judy!
