Endorser Erick Saoud recently participated in the 2014 Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville Percussion Institute. According to Director Dan Smithinger, his appearance made for another fantastic event. His fourth time at SIU-Edwardsville, Erick’s teaching and scholarship, performances and lectures were a great representation of what the camp is about. Using technology, integrating multiple resources and teaching approaches, Erick Saoud continues to demonstrate cutting-edge techniques and artistry for the activity and the camp. I just returned from presenting a master-class at The New England Percussion Institute. Their beautiful lakeside location is ideally situated at the Snow Pond Music Festival in Maine. Participants get an intensive six days of study geared to high-level undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students. Program participants study primary percussion and accessory instruments with a world-class faculty in an intimate and supportive environment. Daily activities include daily orchestral repertoire reading sessions, lessons, lectures, masterclasses and recitals. Participants can expect to explore a broad range of topics from tone production, interpretation, and percussion section techniques to changing and clearing timpani heads and audition preparation. Endorser Thomas Toner visited our factory last Friday. He came in search of a new concert snare drum. He left with one of our new G3 Symphonic Models.
Tom is Chairman of the music department at the University of Vermont. He holds a DMA from Eastman as well as degrees from Yale and the University of Massachusetts. His duties include conducting the concert band, wind ensemble and percussion ensemble. Dr. Toner joined the Vermont Symphony Orchestra at the age of 18, and became Principal Percussionist a few years later.
