Berklee College of Music percussion student Grace Herzog visited us today. Grace is a talented, creative percussionist who also builds instruments! I first met her when I gave a speech to the Berklee student orchestra a few weeks back. Today, Grace brought her "CLAY MARIMBA" to show us. I was very impressed. The intonation was good and the sound ethereal. When I laid down a lick from the Beatle's "Day Tripper" it caught everyone's attention...!
Wuhan Philharmonic Percussion section - Xu Yun, Yuan Na, Chris Tusa, and Ma Jing We all hear about all the products imported into the USA from China, well, here's a story of American made products being exported TO China. The Wuhan Philharmonic recently requisitioned a number of our products, including our snare drum, tambourine, triangle and accessories.
Principal Timpanist Chris Tusa heads up the section. Chris is a fine young musician and a Grover Pro Endorser. I met Chris a number of years ago while teaching at Lynn University, where he was attending. He impressed me then, and he impresses me now.
Over the past 85 years there has been a dramatic increase in the number of women entering the percussion world. Our friend, Meghan Aube's, doctoral dissertation on the subject is a comprehensive study into the rising involvement and accomplishments of women within the percussion community. Congrats to Dr. Aube for a job well done!
