Professor Toner is Chairman of the music department at the University of Vermont. He holds a DMA from Eastman as well as degrees from Yale and the University of Massachusetts. His duties include conducting the concert band, wind ensemble and percussion ensemble. Dr. Toner joined the Vermont Symphony Orchestra at the age of 18, and became Principal Percussionist a few years later. He has performed a wide variety of music with the VSO, including most of the standard orchestral repertoire, unusual 20th Century pieces (such as the solo snare drum part in Carl Nielsen's Clarinet Concerto with soloist Richard Stoltzman), and "Pops" music with the likes of Peter, Paul, and Mary, and Tish Hinojosa (where he played drum set, congas,...

Grover Pro Endorser Dr. Scott Herring has had a busy summer, recently completed a performing and teaching trip to China. Scott visited Yantai, which is on the coast, about a one hour flight from Beijing. In addition to performing with the Rosewind Duo at the Yantai Cultural Center, he was the first professional Western percussionist to visit the area. The numerous young, aspiring, Chinese percussion students were thrilled to be able to learn from someone of Scott's caliber and abilities! Scott reports that all of the students and teachers were very thirsty for information about western percussion techniques. It has just been announced that Grover Pro artists Julie Davilla, Julie Hill & Amy Smith, known collectively as The Caixa Trio have won the "Best Percussion Ensemble" category of DRUM! magazine's "Drummie" awards.
